I would like to take a minute to introduce you to one of the most disgustingly refreshing, natural sinus allergy relief, products out there. You’re asking what in the world are you talking about, sinus allergy relief?? You mean there’s remedies for allergies? You got it padre there is!
Take a Lesson in Sinus Treatment from India
I’m talking about Neti Pots. They’ve been in use for hundreds of years beginning in India as part of the purifying yogic tradition of Panchakarma. A traditional Neti Pot is shaped like a small teapot with an open top to allow for the liquid to pour out of it unimpeded. The spout of the pot is small enough to fit inside a nostril. You can purchase Neti pots or sinus rinse pots at your local pharmacy, WalMart, Whole Foods, or online.
The use of a Neti pot or sinus rinse is excellent for persistent sinus blockage, allergies, and to prevent bacteria from growing in the nasal and sinus cavities. Many health professionals recommend using a Neti pot regularly, even every day, to maintain sinus health.
How Do I Get Some Disgustingly Natural Sinus Allergy Relief?
Warm distilled salinated water is the best liquid to use for cleaning out the sinuses with a Neti Pot. Unlike some other liquids, it will not sting or irritate the mucous membranes inside the nose and sinus cavities.
To use a Neti pot, heat distilled water to a warm but comfortable temperature. One way to start is by microwaving it in 5-second increments until the temperature feels good to you. I use an electric teakettle. Either way, test it on the inside of your wrist to find the best temperature for you. In playing around with it I find that just a little warm feels the best when I’m rinsing.
Once the water is ready, lean forward over a sink or tub and place the nozzle of the pot in one of your nostrils. Tilt your head to the side and allow the water to flow into the nostril and out the other side. If it feels like some of the liquid is going down the back of your throat, close the back of the throat so the liquid is redirected up through the nostril and sinus cavity.
Now for the fun part! When you’ve emptied out about half of the pot, set the neti pot down and blow your nose. Repeat the same process for the other nostril.
Some people say that their experience of using a Neti pot is like drowning. I didn’t find that at all. I just made sure to breathe through my mouth and found it surprisingly pleasant and really satisfying at the end when I could blow everything out.
Recently I’ve been using the sinus rinse about twice a day, once in the morning right after I get up and once right before I go to sleep. It’s helped so much! Give it a try – you won’t regret it.
