Walking is a unique part of the human experience that we seem to have forgotten about in today’s hectic world. Reintroducing a few extra steps to your daily routine will make a world of difference for your health. You’ll doubly benefit from Minimalist Walking in Barefoot Sneakers here’s how…
When it comes to walking, our feet are where the proverbial rubber meets the road. And you should care for them accordingly.
Most modern shoes actually handicap the feet throwing the body’s delicate muscle / skeletal system off, much like setting a book under one leg of a table.
This lends to many chronic issues such as knee, back, and shoulder pain.
Double Your Benefit Double Your Fun with Barefoot Sneakers
I recommend transitioning to barefoot walking shoes which allows the feet & body to remain true to the their delicate balance.
A couple recommendations would be Vibram Barefoot Shoes and or Merrell Barefoot Shoes. These shoes will give you the added benefit of restoring your body’s delicate balance while walking.
Do I Need a Transition Shoe?
Many individuals feet have been so severely handicapped by modern shoes that their feet require some degree of strengthening and rehabilitation.
These individuals will need to slowly transition to a minimal shoe. That’s where transitioning shoes such as the Nike Free XT come into play.
These shoes feature foot supports to a lesser degree. For instance, the Nike Free features a highly flexible sole but still has cushioned sole with arch supports. Over time the foot will strengthen and the shoe can slowly be shed.
Another fantastic transition tip is to walk barefoot more. Walk barefoot around your house, or wear your minimal shoes to the office where you primarily sit.
With these transition tips you will slowly and safely strengthen your feet over time.
This process may take a while but it’s well worth every minute. Once you’ve made the switch to full time minimalist footwear you’ll never go back. I can vouch for that.
What Does Minimalist Walking Mean to Me?
There’s a lot to be said on the topic of healthy feet. But let’s not digress, the important things are to,
Walk More
This excites the body’s most basic functions restoring health and relieving stress. I recommend adding at least one mile to your daily routine.
Transition to Minimalist Footwear
Ditch the supports, cushy heals, and tight fitting shoes. If this isn’t practical simply wear a less restrictive shoe such as the Nike Free. Then as the foot strengthens transition to a more minimal shoe or bare-feet.

Just wanted to say that I’ve enjoyed all your information. I first caught you on youtube reviewing the correct toe product… which I am planning to purchase soon as I transition to a minimalist shoe. This video was your best production that I’ve seen so far. Just wanted to give you some encouragement and a big thumbs up! I think what you are doing is great and offering free information as well as other services that can be purchased makes your expertise available to everyone. Keep up the great work/play Matt! Sincerely, Mike
Thanks soooo much for your kind words! I am glad you found the information I compiled helpful. Don’t hesitate to drop me a line if you have any questions when you get your minimalist shoes. I personally found the transition to minimal shoes very difficult so I used a Nike Free as a stepping stone. But think from there another shoe with minimal drop such as the New Balance Minimus would be prudent. It took me a couple years to fully adjust but I’m finally at zero drop, minimalist shoes. And the effort was definatly worth it! Thanks again for your excellent comments 🙂
