Eat Fiber

Standard

Fiber is food that the body’s digestive system cannot break down.  Specifically speaking it is the body’s number one detoxification nutrient.  It passes through the body binding with and pulling out harmful waste and toxins.  There are two types of fiber, the first is soluble fiber and the second is insoluble fiber.

What is Soluble Fiber Soluble fiber is fiber that dissolves during the digestive process turning into a gel like substance.  This substance binds with waste and controls breakdown of nutrients.  Harmful substances such as fatty acids, cholesterol, and other toxins are swept up in this substance.  It can be found in foods such as oats, barley, flax, and beans.

What is Insoluble Fiber Insoluble fiber also known as roughage pulls waste out of the body.  It does not break down at all while being digested but instead clumps together sweeping up harmful waste in it’s path.  This cleansing action helps the body maintain a healthy pH and promote regular bowel function.  Insoluble fiber can be found in foods such as vegetables, fruits, bran, seeds, and nuts.

Why Should I eat Fiber?

If you find your self asking, why eat broccoli, why eat spinach, why eat beans….  Then this is why.  They all contain high amounts of fiber which will keep your digestive system healthy and free of diseases such as collapsed colon, diverticulitis, and hemorrhoids.  Fiber is a vital nutrient to our health.  It maintains a healthy digestive system keeping the body free and clear of waste and toxins.  Listed below are a few of many reasons you should eat fiber.

Eating Fiber Can Reduce Cholesterol Naturally – If you are looking to reduce LDL cholesterol levels then eating soluble fiber might be just the right answer.  Now you’re wondering, “How does soluble fiber reduce cholesterol levels?”  It’s simple, soluble fiber binds with LDL cholesterol pulling it out of the body!

How Much Fiber Should I Eat?

I recommend you eat a portion of fiber at each meal. I personally eat lentils. They are an amazing food rich both in protein and fiber. They are easy to prepare and cheap to buy. You simply toss them in the crock pot with some herbs and filtered water. Then you have a hearty well rounded meal for literally a few cents! Additionally, in the mornings I have a bowl of oatmeal. This provides my body with a healthy dose of both soluble and insoluble fiber. It’s a simple, tasty, and cheap way to get sufficient fiber in the body.

A easy way to tell if you are eating enough fiber is to count the number of meals you have in a day.  Then compare that with the number of bowel movements you have.  On average you should have one bowel movement for each meal.  That ensures you are purging all the waste from your body.  Additionally, stools should pass easily and effortlessly.  Otherwise, it is a good sign that not all the waste is being pulling out of your system and that more fiber needs added to each meal.
